While fleeing border control officers, seven people were killed and three others seriously injured after their vehicle crashed into a parked semi-trailer. The trailer was being used for storage outside a building in downtown El Paso. The horrible accident happened in the early morning hours, about 2:15 a.m. It was one of El Paso’s deadliest crashes. It occurred at the intersection of Paisano Street and San Antonio Avenue. It was confirmed by Sgt. Robert Gomez, from the El Paso police department, that a total of ten people were inside the four-door, sedan-style compact car when it hit the semi-trailer that was sitting on large concrete blocks. The three surviving victims were taken to local hospitals in serious-but-stable condition, according to police and fire officials. No identifications or details on the victims were available immediately from authorities. An investigator told ABC-7 that the process of identifying all the bodies and notifying relatives was not expected to be completed for a couple of days. After U.S. Border Patrol agents attempted to stop the driver of the vehicle, the vehicle fled and ended in a motor vehicle accident. The agents were trying to stop the car for a failure-to-yield violation. The location of the impact, which was a stretch of Paisano Street, has a history of driving fatalities. Gomez indicated that the agents were trying to stop the car for a failure-to-yield violation, and he noted that the section of Paisano Street is no stranger to traffic crashes."We do know that there are a lot of crashes here, as that curb is very sharp right after downhill from an overpass. A lot of people don't navigate that curb correctly — it is usually due to speed," Gomez explained.Another similar crash occurred previously at the same location. At that time it also was the result of a driver speeding to avoid Border Patrol. A drunk driver was carrying Ecuadorian nationals in his van and crashed into a pole at the same corner. In that accident, one person was killed and three were injured. When accidents take place, immediately there is help needed to deal with the legal issues that arise.
